Live CDs for various operating systems are getting more and more popular in the recent years, after Linux Live CDs gained great popularity among Linux users, Live CDs for other OS started to appear, including Windows XP Live CD. One of the first and most popular version of Windows Live CD is Bart’s PE.
Would you use a Live CD when you can use a Live USB thumb drive? I wouldn’t, a USB thumb drive is much more portable than a CD, at least you can’t slide a CD into your pocket easily, and futhermore, you can still store some data on your USB thumb drive as long as there is free space available. Björn Fröhlecke posted a step by step guide at Tom’s Hardware Guide, showing you how to install and configure Internet-enabled Windows XP (together with applications such as Firefox, Nero Burning ROM, Ad-Aware, McAfee Stinger and others) on a USB thumb drive, using Bart’s PE.
