“Gosh! I’m running out of hard disk space on my notebook again!” How many times have that happened to you? It happens to me maybe once a month or two months as I do pretty much image/photo editing for fun, as well as download video files from the Internet. My Notebook does not only have a DVD writer, nor do I have an external DVD writer, transferring files to the desktop downstairs is a bit too troublesome for a lazy bug like me. If you fits in my shoes and you are planning to upgrade your Notebook’s hard disk drive, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies have released an upgrade kit that just might be the answer you’re looking for. It doesn’t only let you upgrade your Notebook’s HDD, but also let you reuse your original HDD as external storage.
The Notebook PC Upgrade Kit includes a Hitachi Travelstar 2.5” hard disk drive, an upgrade CD with Apricorn EZ Gig II data transfer utility, a high-speed USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure (compatible with USB 1.1 and comes with necessary cables), and an installation guide.
The whole swapping process can be done in three steps:
- Put the new drive into the enclosure provided and plug into a USB port on your Notebook
- Boot your computer using the provided Upgrade
CD and follow the software prompts (this step allow you to clone everything from your current hard drive to the new hard drive, including hidden drive partition which contains system tools, recovery data and so on) - Turn off your computer then swap the drive in the Notebook for the drive in the USB enclosure.
This upgrade kit is available in 40, 60, 80 and 100Gb.
