Sony has unveiled the latest addition to its ever-growing range of portable music players, the Walkman Bean.
The bean-shaped player offers 512Mb and 1GB capacities in white, black, blue or pink, with a bright one-line OLED display and neat, pop-up USB connector. Both versions also come with a built-in FM tuner.
Sony claims 50 hours of playback from a single charge though past evidence has suggested that real-world battery performance rarely matches manufacturers’ claims. Sony also claims that with their super high-speed charge facility, the Walkman Bean provides the user with 3 hours play from just a 3-minute charge. Supported audio playback formats are MP3, Sony’s ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus. ATRAC format provides higher sound quality with smaller sizes than many competing formats.
The Walkman Bean will be available in mid-September for US$129.95 (512MB) and US$179.95 (1GB). Their website is accepting pre-orders now.
