The NEC N701i is one of the phones in NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA Autumn Collection 2005. This rectangular clam shell comes in 4 color options: white, black, red, and light blue. It uses anti-bacteria material for its housing, and the phone is designed to allow user to change the housing easily with 7 color options excluding its original color.

As a FOMA phone, the NEC N701i only supports WCDMA network. It measures 102×48 x 23 mm in dimensions and weighs 112 g. It features a 2.3” 65K color QVGA (240×345 pixels) TFT-LCD main display, and a horizontal bar STN sub display display on the cover with white texts over the gray background. As a 3G phone, it also comes with a 1.25 Megapixels CMOS main camera (with approximately 10x zoom), and a 0.11 Megapixels Maicovicon sub camera (with approximately 2x zoom).

With a fully charged battery, the N701i provides up to 130 minutes of audio telephony talk time, or up to 80 minutes of video telephony talk time; and up to 430 hours of standby time when the phone is in still position, or up to 350 of standby time when the user is moving around with the phone.

The NEC N701i comes with the usual FOMA phone features, as well as the i channel (aka i.ch) feature, which is a feature provided by NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA network where the users will get the latest news headlines automatically at the bottom of the main display as shown in the picture above. The NEC N701i also features a miniSD memory expansion slot for photo/video/music storage.

The retail price of a new NEC N701i without service subscription contract ranges from 15750 Yen (US$138) to 20100 Yen ($177) in Japan.
