External hard disk drives are always convenient not only for laptop users with limitted hard disk space, but also desktop users who want to take their entire data-life with them wherever they go. However when it comes to older designs, cabling could always become annoying for external hard drive, you always have to make sure there’s an extra power socket for your external HDD.
This sleek little Dragon Drive measures 80×15 x143 mm and weighs approximately 4.6 ounces. It addresses the cabling issue by being entirely bus-powered using either FireWire or USB 2.0 (backward compatible with USB 1.1). If you’re using a FireWire connection, you just plug the drive into a port and it’s ready to go. However if you are using USB connection, the package also provides you a USB Y-cable with two connectors at one end. Both connectors have to be plugged into either a powered USB hub, or directly into the powered ports on your computer, this is due to the fact that just one USB port doesn’t provide enough power to run the drive.
The Dragon Drive comes with a 2.5” 5400 rpm HDD with 8MB buffer and storage capacity of either 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100 GB. It can house any 2.5” HDD that’s less than 9.5 mm in height so you can still upgrade it easily in future when higher capacity 2.5” HDDs are available. Best of all, these drives are smart enough to autosense and switch as needed, easily adapting to your computer host with no whining.
Market price of the Dragon Drives ranges from $99 (20GB) to $279 (100GB). The 80GB and 100GB versions Dragon Drives are currently available at Amazon for $164.99 and $209.99 respectively.
