Jørgen Sundgot posted a detailed review of Archos AV700 Mobile DVR at infoSync World on Thursday. I would really like to have this gadget even though Tony said this thing is huge. Alright, I have to admit it’s kinda huge as it’s larger and heavier than the Sony PSP. However for what it does, it’s definitely small, it’s still portable (indeed much more portable) than those desktop DVRs available in the market.

• 100GB storage capacity (equivalent to 400 hours of video or 250 movies; 40GB version is also available
• Record directly from TV, VCR, DVD player, cable or satellite box
• Play recorded DVD-quality video, as well as DivX and MPEG-4 files
• 7” 262K color screen
• Transfer photos directly from digital camera
• Auto Synchronize with Windows Media Player 10 and play WMV and protected WMV files
• Record and listen to music, play MP3, WAV, WMA and protected WMA files

• Connectivity:

  • TV output
  • USB 2.0
  • USB host – connect other USB devices

• Download and play Mophun^TM games

Here is Jørgen Sundgot’s conclusion about AV700 in his review:

Boasting a highly impressive feature set, the Archos AV700 is currently the most capable portable media viewer on the market. It does, however, require a certain amount of technological prowess from its user to operate at its full potential given the lack of polished media delivery solutions. Highlights include its massive screen and storage capacity along with support for the most widely adopted audio and video formats, with its ability to act as a Windows Media device and tag-based audio navigation particularly worthy of praise. In short, the AV700 offers a lot of bang for buck, as long manually transcoding video doesn’t present an issue – or isn’t needed.

And also the pros and cons:

Pros: Gobs of storage; super-size display; chock full of features; PlaysForSure compatibility. Cons: Screen resolution mediocre; lacks integrated video out; average battery life.
