I was surprised to find out Archos has upgraded their Gmini 402 Pocket Media Player by adding camcoder feature on it. The upgraded version is actually called Gmini 402 Camcoder.
You can now record your personal videos in MPEG 46 format directly to your Gmini 402 Camcorder. Five different modes of resolution are available to suit your needs. In low mode, you may capture up to 50 hours of your personal videos and 13 hours1 of your personal videos and 13 hours in high resolution (VGA). The Gmini 402 Camcorder also features a digital zoom 2x. With DSC function, your Gmini 402 Camcorder can be used as a still camera allowing you to take photos with maximum resolution of 1.2 mega pixels.
Other than the camcoder feature, the camcoder version shares exactly the same features as the PMP version:
- 20GB storage capacity (stores up to 80 hours videos, 200,000 pictures and 10,000 songs)
- 2.2� 262K colors TFT-LCD with max resolution of 220×176 pixels
- Support playback for MPEG-4, DivX, AVI, WMV (including protected WMV files), MP3, WAV and WMA (including protected WMA)
- Music recording from analog source to WAV file
- Up to 10 hours music playback or 4 hours video playback with built-in Li-Ion battery
- USB Host Port for direct file sharing with other USB powered mass storage device such as digital camera, powered portable hard disk drive, USB memory sticks, and card reader.
- Auto synchronization with Windows Media Player 10 when connected to your PC using high-speed USB2.0 interface.
- Convert Windows Media Player 10’s library contents to supported playback formats
- Organize photos in easy thumbnail or slideshow views, and watch them on the Gmini 402 screen or any external display
- Download and play MophunTM games
Amazon is selling the Gmini 402 Camcoder for $369.99, and the Gmini 402 Pocket Media Player for $237.49.
