NEC today unveiled their new laptop model, the VersaPro UltraLite VY12F/CH-W, which comes with a light (it weighs just 996g) and strong casing that is able to resist pressure of up to 150kg. Although it is not the lightest laptop in the world (Panasonic’s R4 is still the lightest), it definitely has the strongest frame ever built for any consumer laptop.

The VersaPro UltraLite also comes with a 12.1 TFT-LCD XGA display and a built-in fingerprint scanner for authentication. Here are some specifications:

  • CPU: Intel® Pentium® M processor ultralow voltage edition 753 (1.20GHz)
  • Memory: DDR-SDRAM 256MB
  • Graphic accelerator: Intel® 855GME tip/chip set built-in
  • Hard disk: 20GB
  • Communications: LAN (100BASE-TX/10BASE-T), 56K V.92 Modem
  • Battery: Lithium ion battery for up to 7 hours usage.

Because it’s so small, the VersaPro UltraLite doesn’t include DVD/CD drive and floopy disk drive. The NEC VersaPro UltraLite will be available on Japanese Market from January 16, 2005 onwards, with expected retail price of 250,000 Yen (US$2061).
