Although Samsung has been concentrating on releasing high end mobile phones, they haven’t forgotten about their market in low end mobile phones. After releasing the SGH-X308 recently, another low end Samsung mobile phone, the SCH-X969 will be released this month. These two light weight phones use completely different designs and supports different type of networks, the X308 is tri-band GSM clam shell phone, while the X969 is a CDMA candy bar phone.

Comparing with the previous model X208, the SGH-X308 comes with an extra mono color sub display on its cover, and weighs 70 g, which is 5 g heavier than the X208. Samsung also has added FM Radio function in the X308, allowing users to store up to 30 channels. Other than that, it’s basically the same as the X208, featuring a 65k color display, 40 polyphonic ringtone, infra red transfer, and speaker phone function. Suggested retail price is NT$4800 (US$148) in Taiwan.

After Nokia and Motorola released 3125 and C305 CDMA phones respectively, Samsung decided to release the SCH-X969 to get a bite of the low end CDMA market. The SCH-X969 comes with very simple functions, it weighs 80 g and features a 65k color CSTN display.

From April onwards, Samsung will start concentrating on the release of this year’s slim phone models. The first batch of slim phones include the 8.9mm ultra slim card phone P308, the 15.9mm slider phone D528 and the 14.9mm 3G phone Z548. Other than that, Samsung has also introduced an ultra light Bluetooth headset, the W200, which weighs just 9 g and offers up to 280 hours standby time. The W200 is definitely a strong competant to Motorola’s mini Bluetooth headset H5.
