OQO Model 01

Okay, this isn’t new, but it’s still cool even 10 months after the release. The OQO Model 01 was introduced by OQO in October 2004. It is an ultra portable pocket-sized, full-featured Windows XP (not Windows Mobile!) personal computer.

Included in the compact body which measures 4.9” x 3.4” x 0.9” in dimensions and weighs only 14 ounces are: there is a 1GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, a shock-mounted 20GB HDD, 256MB DDR RAM, 800×480 W-VGA 5” transflective display, 3D accelerated graphics with 8MB of video RAM, QWERTY thumb keyboard with mouse buttons and TrackStik (ugh! that’s the only thing I hate, I never mastered the pointer device on IBM’s notebook), 802.11b wireless, Bluetooth wireless, FireWire, USB1.1 (I wonder why not USB2.0), 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, microphone, and a removable 4000mAh lithium polymer battery with LED fuel gauge (up to 3 hours usage).

It also comes with a OQO docking cable which includes 3D accelerated 1280×1024 VGA video output, additional USB, additional FireWire, Ethernet, DC power and audio out.

OQO is selling the Model 01 for US$1999.99 (Windows XP Pro) on their website. There’s also a promotional video on their website for you to have a glimpse of Model 01’s features.

    1. I have a O2 Xda IIs and I think is sufficient, as I also have a laptop for intensive ussage. OQO cost too much…maybe later the price will drop. With that price, I can get a O2 and a laptop.

    1. Yeah I agree, OQO is expensive.

However, consider it’s size and weight, which is much smaller and lighter than even the lightest laptop available now, I’d say it’s much more portable than any laptop.

I guess there are still some people who prefer a full featured pocket-sized computer over O2 or laptop (if money isn’t a big deal). It’s probably more useful for business professionals who travel around a lot, whether within the city or from city to city.

    1. The OQO model 01 is a standard x86 PC and can run Linux and that is already times good :-)
