World's Smallest DMFC

The most important issue to be solved for DMFC is its size. The developers in Japan has been trying to reduce the size of DMFC to increase its portablity. As shown in my previous post, the size of some DMFC protocols are still larger than a regular mobile phone. However there is a much smaller DMFC produced by Toshiba, which measures only 22×56 x 4.5 mm in dimensions, and weighs 9.5g including 2cc of methanol fuel inside the fuel tank. This DMFC which provides output of 100 miliwatts is indeed the world’s smallest DMFC today. It allows the electronic device to operate continously for 20 hours with its full tank of 2cc highly concentrated methanol fuel.

The Guinness World Records has officially certified this DMFC produced by Toshiba as the world’s smallest DMFC. It will be featured in the 2006 edition of Guinness World Records.
