While face detection has become a common feature in modern digital cameras, Sony took one step ahead and developed the first camera with smile detection, the DSC-T300, and proudly announced it today.

The main attraction of this camera is certainly Sony’s new smile detection technology. So how does this new feature work? When the camera is set to smile detection mode, a user can select one out of the three preset smile detection levels (i.e. smile, grin, and great grin). After the shutter button is pressed, the camera will detect the target’s face and shoot the photo automatically once the chosen smile level is reached. High quality camera maker Leica finally introduced their first digital rangefinder, the M8 in September. Perhaps we should think of the M8 as a digitalized M7 instead of a brand new product. After their success with the old V570 dual-lens camera and the V610 with 10x optical zoom
, Kodak kicked the new V705 out without a second thought. The main upgrades from its predecessor V570 are the twin 7MP sensors (as opposed to 5MP) behind its fixed wide-angle and optical zoom lenses, which conspire to give the V705 a whopping 5x opitcal zoom. Other niftyness includes new anti-blur tech and Kodak’s Perfect Touch processing, which makes your pictures better than your pictures.

Sony came up with their own life GPS device, the Sony GPS-CS1. This little device attaches to compatible Sony cameras including the Sony Alpha DSLR and stores GPS and time information, so when you download your photos it can tell you exactly where and when you took them.
